This annual workshop is designed for those who are new to long term care financial management or looking to enhance their knowledge.

This introductory to intermediate level workshop will take an in-depth look at how long term care funding currently works and the directions for change. Representatives from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) will discuss the eligible expenditures and revenue for each funding envelope and provide an overview of the CMI and its calculations. The Ministry will also review various financial reporting requirements, including the MIS reports, Annual Reconciliation Report (ARR), staffing survey, and physiotherapy and exercise reports.

OANHSS members will also provide insight on how to manage special rehab categories using RAI data, as well as information on supplementary pots and preferred revenue.

This workshop will:
  • Review the fundamentals of the long term care home funding system, in particular the envelope system.
  • Provide detail on the new funding model and reporting requirements for physiotherapy and exercise expenditures.
  • Discuss how to use RAI/MDS data to manage special rehabilitation hours.
  • Provide an understanding of the different non-Ministry revenue sources, including co-payment and supplementary pots.
  • Review the rate reduction application process and how to deal with in-year changes.
