CLOSING KEYNOTE: DAVID BEN
MAGIC BY DESIGN
Wednesday May 9, 2012 - 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Want to learn how to perform the impossible? You do it every day, but maybe don’t realize it. Watch David Ben, one of the world’s foremost magicians and creative problem-solvers, as he displays not only on-stage feats of magic and mystery, but shows how to draw out the magic from within. Once a tax lawyer, Ben switched acts 20 years ago to pursue his love of the magic craft. His most recent show, Natural Magick, was a hit at Luminato, Toronto’s festival of creativity and the arts, and he is currently the festival’s program director for its “Masters of Magic” series. His work has been featured at the Shaw Festival, the Charlottetown Festival and the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. He has performed throughout North America, England and Japan. Get ready to be not just entertained, mystified, maybe even levitated, but also learn the real secrets behind magic so you can develop your own creative solutions – and make any problem disappear!

David Ben is a magician, writer, performer and artistic director of Magicana, a Toronto-based performing arts organization. One of Magicana’s innovative programs, “Senior Sorcery,” creates intergenerational opportunities specifically for immobile seniors. Ben’s book Advantage Play – A Manager’s Guide To Creative Problem Solving, examines magicians, card cheats and psychics as models of creativity and pragmatic problem-solving.
